Bare plaster · Sylhet
Ceilings cast for the room.
Designed and fixed in Sylhet. The photographs are rooms currently being finished: grey plaster, before paint. The centre of this medallion is drilled for a light.

The parts of a ceiling
One vocabulary, scaled to the room. You can commission a single medallion or the full run: cornice, corners, border, and centre.
Ceiling medallion
A circular centrepiece in layered rings. A floral boss in the middle, with a fixing point for the light, and blossoms set into the band around it.
Corner scrolls
Where the cornice meets a beam or a return, the angle is filled with leaves rather than a plain mitre. Each corner is modelled to the junction in that room.
Running border
Under the main cornice, a band of repeated upright lobes follows the length of the wall. The repeat is set out to the measured run, so it closes cleanly at the corners.
Panel frames
Stepped geometric borders break a large ceiling into fields. They sit with the medallion, not against it.
How it is made
01
Measure
We take the ceiling, the beams, and the positions of lights. A repeat that looks right on a sample board can fail on a short wall.
02
Draw
The medallion diameter, the cornice depth, and the corner leaves are drawn to those sizes before any plaster is mixed.
03
Cast and fix
Pieces are cast, offered up, jointed, and left in bare plaster. Paint comes after the joints have been made good.
